A great opportunity!
Age: 22
Country: France

After more than 4 months in Daktari, the departure is hard. I will miss the atmosphere, the people, the place and the animals. It will be an opportunity to come back.

I was the animal manager, along with Lilly Husson, another Frenchwoman. We never had time to be bored, between working with animals or with children and having a good time with the staff and volunteers.

Thanks DAKTARI and Michele

Life Experience !
Age: 21
Country: France

During 6 months I was the Office Assistant at DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage.
I am so happy to have chosen DAKTARI, it turned out to be one of the best experience of my life.

I had the chance to work with a young team. They welcomed me warmly, making my experience unforgettable. I had so much fun at work, I learned so many new things. It is a perfect occasion to meet awesome people around the world. I felt living in a huge family.

DAKTARI’s camp feels like a home away from home! I had at my disposal many facilities such as bar, braai area and swimming pool. The food was very good, with chefs adapting to our special dietary requirements (vegetarians).

This is such a special place. Situated right in the middle of the bush, we are living around wild animals. Total escape !

If you love community project, teaching children and take care of animal, this project is for you. I can highly recommend this project. I just want to thank everybody I met during my internship who be able to make this inedible experience. I will always remember it !

Before my arrival I talked with Pretty, a staff member who is adorable. She helped me a lot through the process for my stay at DAKTARI. It has been wonderful to stay a month in the bush, the wild animal that DAKTARI has are very safe and well taken care of. The teaching program is complete and it is a pleasure to share this knowledge with kids from the villages around. The co-owners Michele and Ian are lovely and very implicated in the well-being of animals. Seeing the good that DAKTARI does to the people and the animal is marvellous.

Great Experience

It definitely felt like I made a new family.

I enjoyed everything we did.

Taking care of the animals was fun for me and teaching the children was new to me but an awesome experience.

Everybody was respectful and polite to everyone.

Even though I did not always understand what they are talking, it was interesting to listen to a new language other than my own.

I would come back with no hesitation and recommend to my friends.

Thank you DAKTARI.

it was a bit quiet being the only volunteer, and a bit lonely when people were not speaking english and i was sat by myself, but apart from the couple of times that happened everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

i did expect the children to have more animal interactions especially being so close to other organisations.

the accommodation was nice but a bit lonely when everyone went to bed at 19:30 that was a-little early for me so had to chill in my room alone for a few hours.

the food was absolutely amazing i absolutely love Milli-pap!!

patience the volunteer coordinator was lovely and helped me settle in.

if i return i will make sure theres other volunteers maybe when corona is over.

The 10 weeks I have bin here, have bin special!
I would recommend Daktari to everyone who want to make a difference in the life of children and who are looking to work with animals as well. When you stay here for a long time you will become part of a family that takes care off each other. I believe and love what they are doing. Volunteering at Daktari has bin one of the best decisions I ever took.

See you soon Daktari!
